A Brief History of our Club
The Model ‘A’ Ford was first released in Australia on the 17th May 1928 and thence sold to an estimated 31,000 Australians,
The first Model ‘A’ Ford Club was started in South Australia in 1967. On the 2nd may 1969, Mr Ian Irwin of Canberra founded the Model A Restorers Club of Australia, of which many Queenslanders were members. On the 9th May 1976, 18 enthusiasts met at the instigation of Mr Les Cooling of Strathpine to gauge interest in forming a Queensland branch. The first meeting of this Club was held on the 4th July 1976. Meetings have been held on a regular monthly basis since then.
An elected Rally Director selects runs of interest which are held on the Sunday following our monthly meetings. The Club also holds, in addition to its normal monthly rally, special rallies from time to time as advised by the Rally Director. The format, details and destination of these rallies is open to any Club Member to plan, but before embarking on the rally the Club Member must contact the Rally Director and provide details of the run, so it can be recorded and the details made available to other Club Members either by phone of via the web site.
The big event on our calendar is the Bi Annual National Meet, which is organised by each of the Australian States. Queensland hosted a very successful National Meet in Ipswich in March 2012. The next National Meet is scheduled for October 2020 and will be hosted by the Victorian Club in Ballarat from 6/9/20 to 11/9/20.
Often individual members will take part in invitation tours organised by other Clubs or States. A quarterly newsletter is produced and is sent out to all financial members
